Engineers and technicians seeking to upgrade their network infrastrcuture will benefit from an upcoming international workshop.
Internet expert Alejandro Acosta of the Latin American and Caribbean Internet Addresses Registry (LACNIC) will conduct the workshop on IPv6 or IP Version 6, which is the Internet's next-generation protocol, designed to replace the current protocal, IP Version 4. In order to communicate over the Internet, computers and other devices must have sender and receiver addresses. These numeric addresses are known as Internet Protocol addresses.
Sessions will deliver a mix of theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to IPv6 topology, key routing concepts, IP address planning and IPv4 exhaustion. Staff from local Internet service providers will participate in the hands-on workshop, to be held at the TSTT Training Centre, Chaguaramas from March 17 to 19.
This LACNIC initiative is being held in partnership with an ongoing IPv4 to IPv6 transition project spearheaded by the Telecommunications Authority of T&T (TATT).
"While this is the first event of its kind in the Caribbean in 2015, LACNIC will be embarking on several other initiatives within the region throughout the year," said Kevon Swift, LACNIC External Relations Officer.
LACNIC is a non-profit responsible for the distribution and management of IP addresses. The organisation delivers a wide range of hands-on, practical training sessions on key Internet issues such as Internet number resources, resource certification and securing critical Internet infrastructure.
More information is available at the LACNIC events page.
