The government of Jamaica gave the green light for the transfer of control of Flow and Columbus Networks to Cable and Wireless Communications (CWC), the Jamaica Observer reported.
CWC is the parent company of Cable and Wireless Jamaica (Lime).
The Observer reports that Minister of Science, Technology, Energy, and Mining Phillip Paulwell on Thursday approved the transfer of control of Columbus Communications Jamaica Limited (Flow) and Columbus Networks Jamaica Limited from their parent company Columbus International Inc.
Such approval would clear the path for CWC to expand its fixed telephony and internet services, in addition to its mobile offerings.
A statement from the Technology Ministry, reported in the Observer, said that the Telecommunications Act did not expressly authorise the minister to impose conditions in relation to the transaction.
